Hair Holds Energy

When it comes to my hair, I'm as fickle as it gets. When it's short I want to grow it long (okay so I never really cut it really really short in over 15 yrs..... til now). As soon as it's long, I want it chopped off again and i mean off! And I couldn't quite figure out why finding a hairstylist in California seemed like a huge to do task. Quite honestly, it made me miss NY because my hairstylist Stefano Greco (I miss you and if I could fly you out to Cali every month I would) but he had a great relationship with my hair. He just cut, color and styled my hair every which way my fickleness took him, which I must say takes talent and a special bond. Basically, It's like asking a chef to cook up a gourmet French meal one day and prepare Chinese cuisine the next. You have to have someone that has that versatility to help you transition between different hairstyles beautifully.

My long search that took almost 4 months was finally over when I found my stylist (Nicole at HairWorcz) who understands my hair texture! Should be part of the job description, right? Apparently, hairdressers across the several places I've lived are unfamiliar with how bushy, wavy, prone-to-frizzy, wavy-but-not-curly, Ethiopian-ish lady hair works (and with the concept of listening to customers). It's curly when it's wet, but it's not straight. it looks straight when it's dry and blown out but its actually curly; confusing right I know.

Just as any regular foodie would have tips for their favorite restaurant, here are my pearls of wisdom on why I cut my hair since everyone keeps asking and fabulous stylist I found:

ME: I’m the type of person where if something happens in my life that causes me to make a change emotionally or spiritually, a physical change will occur on the outside (it's neither good or bad it's just change). It’s almost like becoming a different person literally but more importantly I believe hair holds energy and it doesn't hurt to let go once in a while if you aren't prone to getting trims every now and then.

MY STYLIST: She'll give you the best bangs, cut, trim you've ever had - just make sure you know what you want cause once you ask she doesn't hesitate with the scissors; stylist can get scissor-happy.

ME: Short hair is liberating!!

MY STYLIST: It helps if your stylist is cute :-) so you can flirt a little to get a nice discount--I didn't have to get a discount, that is..... since the style I had was already inexpensive.

I have tried so many other stylists, have paid too much, waited too long, been stood up, had my scalp burned, my haircut/color jacked up, etc.... But why is it that a good Black hair stylist is so hard to find in California?

I heart you Nicole!!
